LIGHTS OUT IN RISHTON

The lights at Rishton Cenotaph were turned out at 10.00pm on Monday 4th August to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War. Lights at other HBC monuments across the borough were also turned off and the Town Hall was plunged into darkness, save for one solitary lamp in the Mayor's parlour.

The three Rishton Councillors, plus County Councillor Miles Parkinson and Graham Jones MP all attended a special service at the Accrington War Memorial organised by the Royal British Legion. The Accrington Pipe Band played a selection of musical pieces before readings by Deputy Mayor Marlene Haworth and former Mayor Judith Addison.

The event attracted hundreds of people and finished at 11.00pm with the last post being played.
