Jeff has been involved in several community projects in recent years, notably a campaign to improve the planning application specifications for the Co-op store on Harwood Road and he is currently secretary of the Piggy Park Community Garden Association. He has also had involvement with St Charles School and corresponds regularly with the Rishton Councillors regarding faults around the village which the Council have been able to rectify successfully.
Cllr Harry Grayson said, "All of us thought of Jeff immediately as the ideal candidate to replace me when I step down. He has been involved with us on various projects and always has a measured approach, he'd be ideal as a Rishton Councillor. I'm happy to support Jeff so I will be out on the campaign trail to make sure people vote for a good candidate and I leave my beloved Rishton in safe hands next May."
Cllr Ken Moss said, "How do you replace Harry Grayson? We'll be sad to see H leaving Team Rishton but he's given Jeff a ringing endorsement and will be canvassing with us over the next few months in the run-up to the election. I'm currently working with Jeff to get the Piggy Park project finalised and think he would make a great Councillor."
Cllr Clare Cleary said, "We've known Jeff a few years now and he has always had something positive to contribute. His work at Blackburn with Darwen Council gives him a good background, particularly where grant funding is concerned, so we feel that he would be a fantastic asset to Rishton."
Council Leader Miles Parkinson said, "The Rishton Councillors are backing a sound potential candidate. I've met with Jeff and he has a working knowledge of how Councils operate which will be a tremendous asset in the future."
Graham Jones MP said, "It is vital that any prospective candidate can work with the existing members and there is clearly no doubt in this instance. We need people to stand for Council who have practical working experience and who can bring something to the table. Jeff fits the bill perfectly and I look forward to campaigning for him."
Formal selection of Labour candidates for the local elections in 2015 are taking place shortly and Jeff is currently the frontrunner in Rishton.
